Carton sleeves are used to wrap around a single container or a multipack or products, or clusters. The sleeve cartoning or say carton sleeving is a new form of cartoning solution that, sometimes, a traditional automatic cartoning machine can not fulfill. This post is written to cover various available automation solutions for the carton sleeving of different products.

Pre-Glued Sleeve Cartoning

The pre-glued sleeve cartoning machines are usually capable of the sleeve cartoning of a single container such as a single tray. In most cases, trays are end-loaded into the erected per-glued sleeve blanks. The containers to be sleeved can also be round, oval, rectangular trays, and pods.

The disadvantage is that packaging formed by pre-glued sleeve cartoning would possibly be not tight enough and also it may not be feasible for objects with special and non-regular shapes.

Wrap Around Cartoning

An alternative for the carton sleeve is, without having the sleeves pre-glued, is the wrap-around cartoning.

The sleeve, without being pre-glued, is erected primarily folded into a half-opening form, while on the meanwhile objects are introduced to the sleeve from the end-side.

Wrap-Around Cartoning is carried out by a specially customized automatic cartoning machine and the glue sealed flap would always face top during the process – which means, in order to have the glue flap on the bottom of the package, objects should be introduced to the sleeve horizontally transposed, or say, with upside facing down.

Wrap-Around Sleeving – by a Sleever

The fact is that there is a specifically designed packaging machinery called Wrap-Around Sleever to fulfill the carton sleeving of both single or multipack containers, regardless of shape, numbers of layers and columns, and among other features.

Containers, let them be a single tray, dairy cups, tin can, or a cluster (multipack), are introduced to the wrap-around sleever in a collated way.

The wrap-around sleever feed sleeve blanks directly onto each tray (or others) by a rotary vacuum erector, after which process a series of guides and functional parts will wrap the sleeve around the product and seal the sleeve with hot melt glue on the bottom.

This is the most efficient way for sleeve wrap-around packaging compared with the former two solutions in terms of adaptability, output, tightness of packaging formed…
