The Packaging Solutions for Coffee Sachet Pouch
Have ever enjoyed your teatime by tearing a sachet pouch that you pick up from its carton box, pouring coffee powder and dry granules or placing the teabag in your cups, and preparing your drink with just the hot water? Then have you ever wondered what are the processes through which these pouch sachets have come into being and now arrive at your disposal for your teatime?
In this session, we are going to take you for a tour through the entailed packaging automation solutions in a coffee, tea or other instant drinks in their packaging line, and introduce ELITER’s cartoning automation solution for coffee sachet pouch.
The Production of Instant Coffee Powder
Primary Process
The production of instant coffee starts with the raw, green, primitive coffee beans which are processed by a series of machines to clean, reject unqualified beans or beans with fault and thus select only those coffee beans that meet the standard and technical requirements.
The next step is roasting the beans after which process the green beans will turn into the form we are familiar with – the brown colored coffee beans. Different levels of temperature are used to roast them in order to get them heated and processed into different flavors.
Grinding and Brewing the Beans
A mill grinder is to be the next machinery that will transform the roasted beans into relatively large granules.
The mill grinder is connected to a high-pressure extraction pod in which the granules are to be brewed, just like how we ordinarily prepare a cup of coffee, to produce the original form of liquid coffee.
Vaporizing the Coffee Liquid and Freezing the Extraction
At this stage, the liquid coffee will be transformed into the coffee powder or granules we see in those sachet pouches. The brewed coffee liquid is processed in a special tank where the moisture content is to be vaporized after which the extracted ingredient left is exactly the primitive form of instant coffee powders. After all the above-mentioned processes, the original coffee powder comes at such a high temperature that must be frozen for a while before being proceeded for packaging.
The Packaging of Instant Coffee
The above raw material processes are just the very first steps of an instant coffee production line.
Packing Instant Coffee Powder into Pouch, Stick, Sachets…
Once the instant coffee powder is ready for packaging, they’d be transported by a conveyor into the auger filler of a Vertical Form Fill Seal Packing Machine (VFFS). The vertical packing machine may consist of a multilane packing section or just a single one.
While the coffee granule or powder is processed and filled vertically, the VFFS stretches the packaging material roll to form it into a sticks, pouches, or sachets and seals them when they are at the same time filled with instant coffee powder or granule.
Feed the Coffee Pouch or Sachet toward the Cartoning Machine
The discharged coffee sachets or pouches are indeed ready for consumption, but sometimes they still should proceed to be packed into secondary packaging such as a carton box.
Through a series of conveyors, the pouches or sachets are delivered to the infeed system of a cartoning machine. Usually, such a system is composed of a pair of servo motors, each one drives a pair of chains and thus there are two pairs of them, installed on which are positions designed for the pouches or sachets to be fed and stand there. The infeed system is capable of counting the coming packages, grouping them into desired multipack and feeding them into the coffee pouch cartoning machine.
Case Packing
The packed cartons of instant coffee are usually not directly distributed to retailers, however, they still, need to proceed with tertiary packaging such as case packing. Packed cartons are then loaded into a larger carton box, usually made of cardboard. And sealed by tapes, and in this way, they are to be transported in large quantities to retailers for distribution and sell in different locations.
How does the Sachet and Pouch Infeed System Work?
A pouch and sachet infeed system on a cartoning machine is generally assembled and composed of the following components:
Photo-eyes and signals: which are to coordinate with the PLC and servo motor in counting and accepting the packages
Servo Motor: the drives chains and package hoppers secured on it, each one for a single package fed
Insertion units: which are going to insert and introduced the pouches or sachets once they have been grouped into configured numbers.
This is the primary section that makes a sachet and pouches cartoning machine most unique from the other cartoners.
